Phyllis Schlafly is a conservative icon. She opposed the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and feminism in the 1970s. Several reasons needed more focus on the part of the Americans. She had faith that her struggles would confirm women not being subjected to the draft and building its importance over equal rights for women (Schlafly, 1997). This was the actual fear many people had with the ongoing Vietnam War Schlafly feared that the customs of American society like nuclear family and marriage would be stained if the Equal Rights Amendment passed.
